My FIRA-India Trip
Taking part in FIRA RoboWorld Cup 2010 has been an eye-opener for me. As this year FIRA was held in India, it gives me a chance to visit and experience a culture unlike Singapore.
Together with a team of staffs and students, we flew to India on 12th Sept 2010. We start our preparation by 1st converting our hotel into our battlefield. Making sure our robots are in tip top performance for the competition. We take their normal transport called Tuk-tuk, it’s a three wheel motorbike, small but very useful, especially for heavy traffic jam.

The famous Tuk-tuk of India

During the competition, all of us are very tired yet focus on the events we are taking care of because we only have short intervals to prepare the robots for their next coming event.
Working hard during the competition
Despite all the tough work, I’m very happy and proud to say that we have won 5 Golds and 1 Silver, and broke the FIRA World Records in two events – WeightLifting and Lift-and-Carry.

The competition itself is not just about programming robots and winning.(though I do learnt a lot from it) It taught me a lot on teamwork, perseverance and making friends with our competitors.
Forging friendship with our competitors
Another thing worth mentioning is our tour in India. Mr Albert had did a wonderful planning bringing us around and showing us the culture in India.
Our India tour
I still remember one of my friends was telling me they saw a woman walking towards a cow and sprinkle its urine onto her body. Too bad that was not capture on photos otherwise that would indeed be the photo of the trip.
Last but not least, the food in India is fantastic, we try all kinds of curry, rice and meat, although some of them are quite spicy, still can’t stop us from finishing them.
Flavour of India
I would say “It’s really worth to come to India!”
