NYP ACTION 2011

SEG is proud to be part of the student volunteer team in
this year’s NYP-in ACTION for the Community
held on the 19th of November 2011.
In collaboration with the Lions Befriender
and the other schools in NYP;
namely SIT, SDN, SBM, SHS, SCLS & SIDM,
students from SEG offered their precious time to the old folks
from the north regions in Singapore.

Let’s take a look what they did on that day.

Here’s what some of the students want to share:

“It has definitely been a pleasurable encounter with the elderly. Despite the communication barrier between the student volunteers and the elderly, it was still an enjoyable experience for both parties. Through one of the programmes, “Guess the Title of the Songs”, it was then when I realised that my group of elderly had an interest in singing. One of the ladies could sing very well too! Many of them are very active in their personal life, like participating in singing and dancing competitions. Even though they are old, they make an effort to be active in their community, leading a good example to others and the future generations.” - -Elicia Lim

“This event has been an eye opener for me, as it’s my first time having the elderly coming to the school for an event. In the past, it has always been the students and volunteers going over to old folks home to play with them. We’ve learnt many a things from them, from their history and also their perspectives of the events, past and present. Also, it is also a refreshing concept of having all the different faculties from NYP to come together to organize and help out in the event. However, with greater exposure to the other students from NYP, I’m sure we will be able to both increase the frequency, duration and number of elderly NYP will be able to cater to.” - - Darren Toh

Overall, this event is a great success, but not without the combined efforts from all the student and staff helpers. We have learnt a great deal from these elderly and had much fun too! Thank you Lions Befriender for giving us this opportunity to contribute to the society. See you soon, folks!!
